Show v THE WAY THEY QUARANTINE When a person comes to Milford, And the homefolk hear the troubles In the letters that, they write. Soon they fall in love with Milford, And declare the town's a dream; Still, I must say, its the limit here, The way they quarantine. In most towns, perhaps you've noticed no-ticed If you sneeze upon the street, Or a pimple should develop, on the right side of your cheek; You'd get an invitation and Have time to meditate On the beauty of the banner That they tacked upon your gate. You'd recall the word "efficient" That you've heard so oft of late, But the banner would keep flying On your little prison gate. But here, be it whooping cough or measles, Whooping cough or whiskey dream, It's the limit, just the limit, now The way they quarantine. Last summer, when .the whooping cough Was just the latest style; And the streets were full of whoop-ers, whoop-ers, Forty-seven to a mile Andl the well folk held their darlings To their hearts and longed tO' scream It's the limit, just the limit, now The way they quarantine. Now the measles paid a visit Just a solitary case And before a month is over Measel signs on every place. Still they say it can't be carried But the germs are in the air. And I really must admit it, For the germs are everywhere. And I cannot help but wonder If the officers who wait Until every house is asking For a flag upon its gate Could look in the little, faces Of the babies lying ill On the bodies scorched with fever Of each little Sue and Bill Would they wake up to their duty, I And b steadfast and be true. And stamp out their diseases ! As they know they ought to do. And if we must have a banner, i Why not let Old Glory stream I On the gate posts jit's the limit here, the way they j quarantine. 1 Mrs. Hannah Deady Tonisik. C. L. Meyfield and W. D.
