Show WELL KNOWN ATTORNEY j OF STATE PASSES AWAY Daniel D. Houtz, well known at-1 tomey, died suddenly Thursday of heart trouble at the Cullen hotel. He had suffered slightly from his heart during the past few weeks but his condition was not considered serious. ser-ious. Thursday he was taken with a severe attack and within an hour was dead. The body was taken to the Oualtrough-Allcot undertaking establishment. A native of Springfield. Utah, Mr. Houtz was the son of Jacob and Mrs. Bridget Daley Houtz. He was born March 11. 1960 and was educated in the public schools of his native city, and Brigham Young academy at Provo. later studying law privately. From 1884 to 1888 he taught whool in Tooele county and was made superintendent su-perintendent of schools there. The same year he moved to Salt Lake and entered the law office of Richards and Movie. Mr. Houtz began the active practice prac-tice of the law In Provo In 189 0 and in 1905 he returned to Salt Lake. For several years he was district attorney for the Fourth judicial district dis-trict and he wasi also attorney for the" Consolidated Fuel company of Utah for a number of years. While a resident of Utah county he was ac-1 tive in the Elks' lodge and was at one time district deputy of the order. Business interests caused Mr. Houtz to move to Qelta about 18 months ago. On May 12 he returned to Salt Lake and had lived at the Cullen hotel since. Surviving him Is his widow, Mrs. Alva York Weiver Houtz. j |
