Show COURT PROCEEDINGS The past few days have sure been busy ones in the local jUBtice court. In Judge Glenn's court, Charley Rcper was up on a charge of running run-ning a still out at the Palmer ranch. After hearing the evidence, the indge decided he was not guilty and he was released. Wednesday of last week, Glen Times was brought into Judge Nlch-ol's Nlch-ol's court on a charge of drunken-ess drunken-ess and tried befora a jury which disagreed dis-agreed 50-50. A new trial was set 'it Saturday. Thursday, William (Dippy) Brew-Ver Brew-Ver was brought into the same court and tried before a jury and found suilty of drunkeness, and the judge said 10 days and $50. His attorney eave notice of an appeal and was given 24 hours in which to get an appeal bond. Friday the same defendant was brought before the same justice and tried for disturbing the peace at the Peanery. The defense put on many witnesses, but evidently the judge iid not take much stock in their evidence, evi-dence, for he was again found guilty and the judge assessed him $25 and -osts. His bond of $100 has been declared forfeited. for-feited. Saturday morning, when Glen James' second trial came up, the defendant de-fendant waived a jury trial and the jurors who had already appeared were excused and the case went on hefore the judge. All the defendant's defend-ant's witnesses had gone back on him, several of them admitting that they had. perjured themselves at the previous trial. The judge found him guilty and as his bondsmen had withdrawn from his bond, the judge turned him over to the city marshal ror safe keeping. Sentence was passed pas-sed Monday morning 10 days and ?50. An appeal to judge Knox' court was taken. . Sam Cline acted as prosecutor in all these cases before Judge Nichols, and C. T. Woodbury for the defendants. defend-ants. In the case before Judge Glenn the positions of the attorney's were reversed, re-versed, Woodbury prosecuting and Cline defending. I |
