Trent Grasp these figures as an approximate appro-ximate cost of tunnels 13 and 14. $200,000.00 dividted $100,000 to A. and B. and $100,000 to O. E. tun nels 13 and 14 are located about D miles west of the city of Isten Nevada, Ne-vada, on the Los Angeles and Salt Lake railroad, Union Pacific sysiem. This tunnel work is under the supervision super-vision of General Foreman A. Yv Krueger, assisted with the following forces: Mr. J. E. Nolan, as engineer accountant, Don. C. Johnson field engineer, en-gineer, E Southern as head timekeeper time-keeper five assistant foremen, one machinist, one steam fitter, fifteen jack hammer men, fifteen timber- men, sixteen carpenters, two sta-i sta-i tionery engineers and thirty carpen-; carpen-; ter-helpers. April first there was eighty pe cent of the bore tunnel 13 completed. The entire bore will be completed by April 26, 1924. This bore consisteC of solid rock throughout. Cementing or lining is about sixty I per cent completed and will be ful-liy ful-liy completed by May 20, 1924. The j large concrete mixer, known as (big j Bertha) is in charge of Fred Nicholson, Nichol-son, who is an expert shooter of con-I con-I crete. All the concrete is shot into j the 'tunnel under very high pressure. ! The work of enlarging tunnels is jvery hazardous and all Ihe work ; must be handled with great care and jat the same time maintain traffic I through the tunnels. There has been but very few accidents, none of a serious nature. General Foreman Krueger is a strictly safety-first man :md credit is due him for the great tare and precaution used in this hazardous work. There was an approximate expenditure expen-diture r:f forty five ihousand dollars alone on the power plant equipment and seven thousand dollars expenditure expendi-ture for housing facilities for the n;-n and cook-house facilities. All the employes are furnished j Electric lights, spring beds with ma;-j ma;-j res-es. stoves coal and janitor ser- vice. Meals are furnished at a cost i ef ;l;:rty five cents per meal.
