Robbins, one of the most prominent prom-inent and efficient mining experts and consulting engineers in the western country, and who represents a large Arizona-New Mexico corporation owning own-ing and operating a new process for treatment of copper and sulphate ore, was a caller at the NEWS office a few days ago. Mr. Robbins ishere in the interests of his company, with a view to the estab-lishmentof estab-lishmentof a plant forthe treatment of copper and sulphate ores by a new process, by which the handling of mined ores is reduced to a very low cost, thus affording a very great saving sav-ing to mining companies. One of the promoters of this new enterprise is Frank B. Hathway of Long Beach, California, owner of the well-known King George hotel of that city, Pres. of the Rochelle (111.) Banking Bank-ing & Trust Co., interested in many enterprises involving large capital, and, in short, one of the financially "solid" and influential men of the southwest. By this new process, which is said to be superior to the chlorine, cyanide. concentration, electric and flotation methods, now in general use, the ore? are prepared ready for the smelter, in such form as to elimiminate the cosi of haulage of superfluous contents Ore can be thus treated at 1 per ton. Dumps averaging only one or two per cent available smelting material, can. it is claimed, be worked, over to man; times these percentages in shipable product. The NEWS representative was shown the "before and after'' of the process and it is "good to look at." Mr. Robbins, who was for fourteen years at the head of the Missouri State Normal School and who gave up educational edu-cational work to specialize on mineralogy, miner-alogy, is enthusiastic over the prospect pros-pect for development of the mining industry in thi9 eounty, especially in the territory adjacent to Milford. Hp has made a thorough examination of the territory and is convinced that he can conscientiously recommend the establishment of one of their mills in this part of the county. Mr. Robbins departed Monday, to confer with the company relative to the matter, leaving leav-ing Superintendent Bachtell of the Ready Pay mine, to handle the matter of obtainmg a bonus of ten pcres of land on which to establish the plant. The company will locate near Milford providing this land can be secured se-cured as an inducement to undertake operations. The promoters are prepared pre-pared to put up a mill to cost anywhere any-where from $5000 to ?40000, depending upon the size of the mill necessary to handle the output of this territory. All they ask is the land. The new enterprise enter-prise would bring a large pay-roll to this section and furnish employment employ-ment for a large number of men. The NEWS is promised further details of the proposed method. Some of the local mining i-oncerns will ship ores to Southern California to be treated by the new process. Among these might be mentioned, McCulley, Orwin and Stoker, 500 lbs; Creole, 300 lbs; Nevada Ready Pay Co., 300 lbs; W. D. Williams of the Molly Pitcher group, 200 lbs. This ore will be treated and a report made later. It should not be a hard matter 1 to secure the necessary land bonus. i o |
