Show CONGRESSMAN WELLING IN EUROPE Milton H. Welling, congressman from the First district of Utah, arrived ar-rived safely on the other side last week. Congressman Welling Is visiting the battle fronts in France and Italy, and the training camps In England during the recessof Congress. In a letter to a friend just before he left, he made this frief statement of his reasons for going at this time: "I cannot escape the thought that I owe it as a duty to myself and our boys who are 'over there' to make this trip. We have voted billions of dollars for the prosecution of the war. This money is being spent, largely, in France for docks, wharves, railroads, aviation fields, hospitals and a thousand other items which go to supply our rapidly, expanding ex-panding expedition. It want to see . this work. I want to know the con-jditions con-jditions under which our boys live j and fight. I would like to meet the j boys themselves in the trenches, and j by personal contact with the hard-, hard-, ships which they endure, bring back 1 to my work here a first hand knowledge knowl-edge of the heroic servireihey are 1 giving to mankind. "The imperishable fame of American Ameri-can arms is just now being demonstrated demon-strated as never before to the world. I should like to learn hnw those at home can best help out In the fight, and encourage those abroad who are doing this wonderful work for the freedom of mankind." Mr. Welling expects to return I about the 20th of September. |
