Show MIXERSY1LLE NEWS XOTES Monday night. March 29, witnessed an educational event that sets a new pace for educational interest in Mlnersville. Mln-ersville. The people had ample excuse ex-cuse for staying at home, had they been hunting such, but in spite of the sensation over smallpox, the new gymnasium was crowded to full capacity. ca-pacity. Seated on the stage as "back ing" both in a pictorial and executive executi-ve sense of the word were a dozen or more of the prominent citizens of Minersville. The local commercial club had previously appointed a stand ing committee on educational mat-ters mat-ters and Wil. T. Morris, chairman of the committee, acted as chairman of the meeting. The entire audience, led by the high school students, sang the National Nat-ional Anthum. after which the Hon. Harden Reunion secretary of state, addressed those 'present. Mr. Reunion Reu-nion claimed no honors for forensic sensation but did that more effective, democratic thing thought out loud in a conservational way, while the people though silently wVth himt The High School chorus rendered the unison chorusi "God of the Nations" Na-tions" set to the music of "The Anvil An-vil Chorus'' from Verdi's II Trova-tore." Trova-tore." Prof. Chas. A. White of the faculty fac-ulty of the L. D. S. university, after indulging in some pleasant humor, nresented a lecture, illustrated by impressive chart graphs, which summed sum-med up the educational situation in an unmistakable manner. Resolutions and pledges of enthusiasm en-thusiasm and support were read by the chairman, and on motion of Pres ident of the commercial club were unanimously accepted. On motion a hearty vote of thanks was tendered the visiting speakers. Invocation was offered by R. W. Dotson, and benediction by Bishop George H. Eyre. |
