Show SCIENTISTS MAKE SOME CORRECTIONS News Editorial on the Weather Calls Forth Reply From Mr. Teasdel We have received the following letter from Harry A. Teasdel, chairman chair-man of the Christian Science committee com-mittee on Publication, of Salt Lake City. We take pleasure in comply-, ing with the request to publish the sauie : Salt Lake City, January 29, 1917 Editor. Beaver County News, Milford, Utah, Dear Sir: In the last issue of the Bea- ver County News, published on January 26th, there appeared under the heading "Power of Suggestion," the following: "You may not be a Christian Scientist, but you must believe in the power of suggestion." The inference to be drawn from this is that Christian Science teaches the power of suggestion. As some of your readers perhaps per-haps do not know much about Christian Science, and as the foregoing would give them a wrong impression of the subject. I trust that in all fairness you will permit me to correct it. Christian Science, like. all other oth-er Christian religions, is founded found-ed on the teaching and demonstrations demon-strations of Jesus of Nazareth, and its followers endeavor to obey all his commands, even to healing the sick as he did, by the understanding of Spirit, by the realization of the Spiritual perfect man, by the power of God, not by the so-called power of suggestion. Mrs. Eddy, in her book Science and Health with key to the Scriptures on page 476 says "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man. who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Savior saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." Christian Science teaches that the use of mental suggestion, etc., destroys the spiritual power to heal. Suggestion is productive produc-tive of both good and evil, while Christian Science can oinly operate oper-ate for good. Suggestion can, and frequently does, lead mankind man-kind away from God. Christian Science, contrariwise, is always found leading humanity to good. HENRY A. TEASDEL. |
