The defendant claimed that when lie entered the saloon he had a ten and a live in his pocket, and that he knew one had been taken from him, while the whereabouts of the five lie could not guess. While a NEWSman talking to City Marshal Baxter, a few days ago, a man approached the officer and handed him a five dollar bill, remarking that he had been present pres-ent in the ealoon, the same evening the trouble occured and had found a five dollar bill on the floor. Not knowing to whom it belonged, he had pocketed the bill and later gone on to Denver. On his return he had heard of the trial of, Shreve and of the miss-iug miss-iug bill and had at once concluded that .he biil he found must have belonged to the alleged knife-wielder, Shreve.
