Will F.Knowlton of the Project, left this evening for Oregon. Chesley Barton came in from Beaver Wednesday, to attend the funeral of Mrs. O'Dell. Fred Reber has returned to Milford after a few weeks visit with his family at St. George. The Golden Rule Store, always enterprising enter-prising and progressive, has taken a fuil-page "ad" in this issue, which makes interesting and profitable reading. Mrs. D. A. Websterand Mrs. Abbie Anderson of the Project, left this wee) for a visit to Santa Barbara, California. ' The W.C.T.U. met, Wednesday, at the home of Mrs. D. A. Webster, of the Project. An interesting program was rendered. Miss Vernal Moody and A.R. Cahoon of Delta have just concluded aweek's visit with Mr. and Mrs.C. J. Mclntire of this city. Contractor Dowd is at Fillmore, superintending the cement construction construc-tion work on the new High School building at that place. A party, consisting of F. A. Gilbert and wife, Mrs. Stockham, Mrs. Ethel Orr and L. Turner, all from Pioche, were in Milford a few days this week, stopping at tfoe Atkin. Dan Cameron was before Justice Nichols, Wednesday, on a charge of intoxication. He was assessed $5 or five days, but chose to "do time" and save his money. The Bee Hive Girls held their first meeting Wednesday afternoon, at the residence of Mrs. J. S. Hanks. They will meet with Mrs. Jorgensen next Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m. All girls over fourteen years are cordially invited to be present. The B.B. Club was entertained. Friday, Fri-day, by Mrs. Nichols&Thiesseptbeprin-cipal Nichols&Thiesseptbeprin-cipal amusement being "500,'' Mrs. Fred Jefferson and Mrs. William Elmer El-mer won the club prizes and Mrs. Glenn the guest trophies. Lunch was served to the guests. Our wireless operator advises that there will be a wedding, probably in Milford, on the 20th instant, with H. 0. Hicks and daughter left a few days ago, for the Coast, on a combined business and pleasure trip. Mrs. Hicks expects to lay in her Fall millinery stack In Los Angeles, returning about August. During her absence the store is in charge of Mrs. Heber Wood. Mrs. Bartgll entertained the O.E.S. Club at her home on Milforc Heights ou Wednesday afternoon. Decora tions of cut flowers made the rooms very attractive. Mrs. Bert Nichols took first prize in the game of "500," Mrs. O. E. Adkins, "booby" and Mrs. Woolley, guest prize. Mrs. P. J. Evans will entertain the Club gt hgr borne, Ofl July 26tii; Mrs. Cottrell received a telegram Wednesday, stating that Kennedy-Cody, Kennedy-Cody, the 16 year old son of Charles Cody, formerly a regidept pf Milford, hafl beep seriously injured at Helper; no other details rere given. Mrs. Cottrell, who was a friend of the family, at once left for Salt Lake to render what assistance she could, the boy-having boy-having been taken to St. Mark's hospital hos-pital in that city. It is supposed the lad was injured on the railroad. Mrs. Emerita Griffith Johnston, wife of D. C. Johnston, who is in the employ em-ploy of the Delta Land and Water Company, on the Project, died suddenly sudden-ly last Saturday, of a complication of diseases. Mrs. Johnsun was taken suddenly worse on Saturday and died within a short time. She was be daughter of 0,. p. ' While "hunting trouble" along the telephone line, Tuesday, Manager R. A. Lemon of the local telephone office, received a bad fall from a motorcycle which he was riding "tandem" with Mom'sbon Hickman. The accident oconred out on the road toward Friscu. Mr. Lemon, who was riding behind, saw the "trouble" and attempted tu dismount from the wheel before it nad come to a full stop. A climbing iron, which he had in his hand, caught iu the spokes and Mr. Lemon's hand was drawn into the frame, cutting and bruising it painfully. He also received re-ceived other minor bruises, but was able to resume his work. Ha found more "trouble" than he was looking for A Project party consisting of Mr. and Mrs. James Nickle, Guy Nickle and Mr. and Mrs. A.I.McKeen, motored to Beaver, Sunday. Also Mr. and .Vlrs. Hummel and two children and Mr. and Mrs. Morrison. The party attended the Methodist Sunday School and revival services now being conducted con-ducted there by Rev. Mork, Dr. Mills and Rev. Allison. Another party of about 18 penple aUo went from here oy auto to attend the same services. Another meeting of the settlers of the Project was held last Monday afternoon, at the Hillside school-house, school-house, to further consider matters of vital interest to the ranchers, including includ-ing alleged grievances against the developing company. At this meeting meet-ing a committee was appointed to visit Salt Lake and obtain expert legal advice as to the merit of ihese claims of unjust treatment. A fund was also provided to finance any fur-thur fur-thur prooedure that may ba taken by the settlers. The Business Men's Association of Milford, beiug vitally intested in the success of the Project, as well as in the prosperity of the entire en-tire valley, has offered to act as mediators med-iators between the company and the settlers, in an endeavor to eliminate these differences now existing. To this end the Association has called a meeting of its members Saturday afternoon, at two o'clock, in the office of the Milford Realty Company, at which meeting a representative of the developing company is also expected ex-pected to be present, and also the committee appointed by the ranchers. |
