Show v PIONEERS OP UTAH Remember the Pioneers When first they saw this land, They found a barren wilderness Composed of sage and sand, The only chance that could see And be at their command. They found no ready roads for them, They made them as they came Or easy crossings over stheams Nor bridges ready framed. They made the country what it is And worthy of a name. A thousand miles they trudged along They left their homes behind. Been driven out by Christian Mobs They had new homes to find, Which God's hand pointed out to them, For God is very kind. And when sor beset with trials Grasshoppers appeared; They ate up all there was for food. The leaves of trees they cleared. Men bent their knee and cried to God, To Him they did draw near. The famine came and bread was scarce And hungry children cry And all the people suffered want. That none of them should die With humble hearts they fervently Thanked him who rules on high. The Pioneers are almost gone, But what they wrote is here, And it forever will remain. Xor can it disappear. For what they wrote they wrote for God The God that brought them here. Remember our ancestors The Pioneer Band. 'r- the water dit':-' For watering the land; And ground their wheat in coffee mills And other means at hand. Watkin Reea at 88. |
