Show USED CLOTHES WEEK SEPTEMBER 23 to 30 Bring your contributions to the Red Cross headquarters. The following follow-ing tell the story: Cablegram from Herbert Hoover to Henry P. Davison, chairman, Red Cross War Council, Washington: The ten million imprisoned people in occupied Belgium and France are facing shame, suffering, disease, and some of them death, for lack of clothing this winter. They must be helped. I hope that the Red Cross will undertake a renewed campaign to obtain this clothing In America. It can come only from us. Your first campaign yielded magnificent results, bringing in fully 5,000 tons of clothing cloth-ing in good condition. But much more is needed if these war-ravaged people are to get through the winter in decency and safety. In the face of brutal coercion and spiritual suffering suffer-ing they remain splendidly courageous. courage-ous. This courage challenges our charity. Let us match the courage of Belgium by the generosity of America. Am-erica. Herbert Hoover. Do Not Bring Garments of flimsy material or gaudy coloring. Stiff hats, either men's or women's. Anything containing rubber. Rubber Rub-ber heels can easily be removed from shoes. Books, toys, soap, toilet articles. Notes or communication of any sort must not be sent. |
