According to recently quoted estimates esti-mates men employed in copper mines produce an annual aggregate of 250,000,000 pounds. Sugar beet tonnage for this year, providing the water supply holds out, will be much in excess of last year's crop, according to J. F. Barton, field superintendent of the Amalgamated Sugar company. McAr-thur McAr-thur of Oregon is the author of a bill that will be a substantial aid in solving solv-ing the problem of caring for our returning re-turning soldiers after the war. The measure makes it possible for a member of our military forces to file on a homestead on the public land in the United States through a relative rela-tive or authorized agent, and at any time within six months after his discharge dis-charge can establish his residence thereon and perfect his title. Mr. McArthur provides that the duration of the applicant's military service shall be deducted from the length of residence required under the homestead home-stead laws, but in no event shall the residence be less than one year. |
