Show START WORK AT SULPHUR MINE M. P. Morrissey o Chicago, representing repre-senting the company which has taken over the sulphur deposits in this and Millard counties, was in Milford Thursday. Mr. Morrissey says that the Government has taken the production pro-duction and distribution of sulphur under its control as there is a shortage short-age of over 45,000 tons of sulphur per month. The company which he represents commenced work on their deposit last Monday and will push their development with all the energy possible with the aid of all modern equipment, and expects to be able soon to handle from 1200 to 1500 tons per day. They have put down over fifty test holes with core-drills extending over an area of about seventy acres, ana in no instance did they miss the vast deposit of sulphur and in no instance did they reach the bottom. He says that without doubt it is the largest deposit in the United States, and perhaps in the world. The timbers for their proposed new buildings and mills are already cut and planed and will be brought to the deposit ready to be put In place. And as the Government now controls the railroads and as it needs the sulphur there is no doubt but that a railroad will be built to the beds Immediately. There are now on the track at Black Rock two carloads of machinery, ma-chinery, three carloads of timber, one of fire brick, one of common brick and two of cement to be taken over to the new mining operations. There are fifteen men at work there now and about twenty-five more are wanted. The pay is four dollars per day. Some of the old buildings will he repaired and put in shape for use. The name of the place has been changed from Sulphurdale to Morrissey. |
