Show DEMOCRATS MEET AT SALTAIR PARK The 1946 Utah Democratic con- ' vention held at Saltair June 8, was as usual a huge success, according to Oral W. Evans, Beaver County chairman for the Democratic party. Highlights of the convention, as reported by Mr. Evans, follow: Convention convened at 11:15 a. m with Chairman Roscoe Boden in' charge. After the opening prayer Executive Secretary Hy-man Hy-man Gus read to the convention the number of delegates allotted to each county, with Beaver allowed Six votes, divided as follows: Beaver Beav-er precinct 3, Minersville 1, Milford Mil-ford 2, with all delegates casting fi vote each. Delegates from Beaver precinct were Joseph A. Manzione, William Cartwright, Martell East-on, East-on, Charles Johnson, J. Frank Pm'th and C. A. Kirkham; Minersville Miners-ville Floyd Woods and James Dot-son;' Dot-son;' Milford, O. W. Evans V Waddoups, Tom Mastros and J. p Vloyantes. Willis W. Ritter was introduced as convention chairman Chairman Ritter opened the bus iness of the convention by appointing appointi-ng resolutions, credentials and lr of business committee. L,st f : of honored guests was read, including in-cluding Congressman Walter K. Granger, Congressman Will Robinson, Rob-inson, Attorney General Grover Giles, Acting Governor E. E. Mon-son, Mon-son, E. Allen Bateman, superintendent superin-tendent of public instruction; Mrs. Scott P. Stewart, state vice chairman; chair-man; Hyman Gus, and Sid T. Jeppesen, treasurer of the Democratic Demo-cratic party. Senator Abe Murdock, scheduled to be the ikeynote speaker, was unable un-able to attend, having remained in Washington to watch developments pertaining to the Geneva steel plant. Senator Glen Taylor of Idaho delivered the keynote address. ad-dress. Other speakers included Ed J. McPolin, candidate for congress, Acting Governor Monson, and a short introduction by the oldest Democrat in the state, Mr. Manning, Man-ning, who is 101 years of age. Clinton D. Vernon was elected state chairman, Mrs. Jack, vice chairman, and S. T. Jeppesen was named treasurer by acclamation. More than 3500 persons attended the convention. |
