Show fUVESTgff-SITUATION fUVESTgff-SITUATION as ieei at the jeles Union ftock yards Los Angeles Union Stock Yards, November 8 The livestock industry, indus-try, confronted with a shortage of grain feed, and uncertain about the rules and regulations which may appear at any moment to hamper their operations, continues to send large numbers of cattle to market. The trend is in evidence ir all parts of the country. While receipts of cattle at 12 national markets last week were not as great as they were the previous week, nevertheless, they accounts ed for over 2S8.000 head. ! In general, these cattle appeared appear-ed with less finish than in former years, as feeders hesitate to contract con-tract heavily in view of limited supplies of concentrates. During the past week, cattle receipts re-ceipts at the Los Angeles Union Stock yards totaled at over 9000 head, with over 3000 calves and vealers. While the number of cattle cat-tle tended to bring prices down, buying was quite active through the five-day period, and good fed : steers and good she stock brought j fully steady prices, with lower I classes shading down. During the week a' load of 885-I 885-I pound steers went at $15.35 per cwt., the top of the market, while jfive loads of good 900- to 993-I 993-I pound steers sold at $15.25. Med-I Med-I ium to good steers sold at from j $13.50 to $15, with grassers at $14. Common to medium brought $11 to $13.25; cutter arid common ; $9 to $10.75. Common to medium heifers sold at $11 to $13, a few I at $13.35 to ,$14. Medium to good ! cows made $11 to $13 and five loads of outstanding fat young cows brought $13.40 to $13.65; common to medium, $9 to $10.75; , canners and cutters $6 to $8.50, late bids under $0. Common to good bulls went at $10 to $11.50, odd head to $11,110; cutter and common, $8.25 to $9.75. Good to choice vealers sold at $13.75 to $14.50. Common to good range slaughter calves moved at $10 to $12.25; early in the week some made $13. Stockers and feeders, chiefly steers, sold at $10.50 to $12.50; common down to $$.75. Several loads of 73S-pound grass heifers went to packer feodlots at $15.25. One load of 221-pound stock calves moved out at $15; other sales largely $11 to $13 on medium to choice stockers. Receipts of hogs at the Los Angeles L'nion Stock yards continued con-tinued heavy, with available supplies sup-plies at close to 5000 head. Following Fol-lowing early buying at the ceiling price of $15.75, good to choice 180- to 250-pounds brought $15 to $15.60; heavies generally went at $14.25 to $14.75. A few light weights sold at $15. Sows were down from previous week. Feeder pigs held rcbout steady. Sheep receipts were light. One lot,d of medium to choice 97-pound wooled lambs brought $14, sorted 25 at $13. Strictly good to choice quotable above $14. Cull to common ewes were sold at $3. |
