Show v Tire Shortage Is Even41ore Acute November quotas of tires for tires for trucks will be 30 per cent lower than in October, and 14 per cent lower for passenger cars, the chairman of the local war price and rationing board reports. re-ports. The extent of the drop in available new tires is indicated by the November quota of 290,245 truck tires as compared with 416,-613 416,-613 for October. The new passenger pas-senger tire quota, the chairman said, was reduced from 654,030 in October to 829,650 in November. However, more used or recapped passenger tires, will be available, the quota for November having been increased from 048,000 in October to 829, 650 in November. The nation is confronted with a serious rubber shortage and motorists will have to use all their ingenuity and care to avert a serious mass transportation breakdown. Representatives o f the rubber division of the state O P A recommend recom-mend that .automobile owners check their tires carefully so as not to let them get beyond the proper time for recapping. It is suggested that just as, or a little before, the non-skid design on a tire wears smooth near the center of the tread, re-capping be attended attend-ed to without delay. At that point of wear, it has been found, over 90 Cr of the tire carca'sses are in condition and a successful job is assured. When this part of the tread is worn entirely smooth less than 407c of the recapping jobs are said to be entirely successful. In another effort to push the cost of living back to levels of September 15, 1942, the office of price administration has reduced the cost of peanut butter from 6V cents to 7 cents a pound, effective ef-fective after November 1. The cut in this price will be offset by a payment made by the Commodity Commod-ity Credit Corporation to processors. process-ors. The new November food chart lists a number of changes in ration ra-tion values. Fruit spreads, for the first time, are rationed with a -alue of six points per pound for jam, preserves and non-citrus i marmalades, while jellies and fruit butters have a ration value of four points Per pound. Twelve point changes were m.ade in the ration value of processed pro-cessed foods, nine up and three down. The ration cost of creamery butter will remain at 16 points j during November. Farm and country butter were raised to 12 j points per pound. Forty-two pork ( veal, lamb and mutton items were, reduced one to two points. Cheeses j in the cream groups were raised, fwo point3. j |
