Show New Interest Taken By Service Groups Indications are that Milford is about to emerge from its strictly money-making cocoon and do the awakening job in really grand style! During the past two or three weeks a quiet campaign has been conducted toward getting a chamber cham-ber of commerce going, much of the work having been done by Ben Hillman, air- and community-minded operator at the A. T. & T. relay station; and D. E. Kirk, a prime mover behind the project, now reports re-ports that some 150 prospective members have signed up, representing repre-senting an excellent cross-section of Milford citizens of all ages. Many of the number already have paid dues of 50c a month for six-and six-and 12-month periods in advance. With the holiday season soon to monopolize the interest of most Icoal people, nothing toward perfecting per-fecting the organization will be done for the time being, January 17 having been set tentatively as the date for electing officers, to be followed by a big banquet and dance January 27. Also, the local Lions club, inactive in-active for some 20 months, is about to be re-activated. Ceasing to meet regularly when the Union Pacific dining room was converted into additional sleeping quarters for railroad employes, the club has continued in. an inactive status until now. Last Saturday, however, Lion District Governor Joseph S. Robi-son Robi-son of Lehi, accompanied by two representatives of Lions International, Inter-national, met with several longtime long-time local Lions, and, as a result, regular meetings will be resumed Thursday evening, November 16, when the first dinner meeting will be held at the Milford cafe, Mrs. : Allsop having agreed to do every- j thing possible to accomodate the l group. |
