Show Sailor Arrives Home For 21st Birthday Monday was an especially notable not-able day for home folks and friends of Glen James jr., more popularly known as "Bud". In the, navy only 13 months, Bud is now a seaman first class on one of Uncle Sam's oldest destroyers. Monday not only was Washington's birthday but also the 21st birth anniversary of Seaman James and the day was made the occasion for a family reunion. Bud wears decorations indicating indicat-ing activity in five major battles in the Solomons. His ship formed part of the convoy which escorted fche first marines to Guadalcanal on August 7. His battle station is with a 20 m.m. gun and on August 8 his gun was credited with downing four Jap planes, for which it has been suitably decorated. decorat-ed. Since then, his ship has been to this center of operations several times and has thus far escaped with no casualties except wounded. Proud of his part in the great but glamour-less work being done in the Pacific. Seaman Bud is typical of the Milford lads who are now serving their country. |
