The broad consumer demand for beef is demonstrated by the fact that national consumption of beef in June was 17 per cent above a year ago, and total slaughter for the month was one of the largest for June on record. However, How-ever, beef cows are not as high as two and three months ago and present quotations on range cows are around $7 to $7.75 with few cows up to .?S.25 per 100 pounds. Due in part to the fact that many cattlemen are holding back veal-ers veal-ers because of favorable feed conditions con-ditions and promise of continuing good demand for mature cattle, the supply of vealcrs has been smaller than miirht be expected in view of heavy marketings of cattle. Milk vealers have been selling at Sll to $11 a cwt.
