The action of the Milford town board in sponsoring Monday evening's eve-ning's massmeeting and the nr 100 percent attendance of the membership of the board at the meeting:, merit the hearty commendation com-mendation of the public, in our estimation. This is not to say that, in doing this, the board did more than what it could and should do, but, by comparison with some other boards, the action is a healthy indication in-dication of what the town dadi can do to help with matters that are not a part of their routine obligations. In other words, the Milford town board, in sponsoring the meeting and thus assisting in arriving ar-riving at a decision on the matter of holding a county fair at Mil-ford Mil-ford this fall, performed a service j that no other body or group, organized or otherwise, could have done so well. Putting on a fair, race meet or other activity of this nature in a small towni should have at least the color of i municipal support. The hard! work a committee does to make a ' success of such a project is not j for glory for themselves butj only for the community as a' whole and this angle should be j given greater recognition which j given greater recognition which j it seems in fair way of getting at long last. i i And, while we are on the sub-j ject, we want to say a word for, v the fine way in which President Walter E. Martin acquitted him- self in presiding at Monday's meeting. Gifted with tact and an abundance of non-hurtful wit, Mr. Martin has handled in able manner man-ner some very difficult situations during the 18 months he has served at the head of Milford's town government. Monday nifht Jt was necessary only to give ample time and opportunity for complete discussion, but this he did in a manner that left no room for complaint of any kind. M |
