Show THE FIFTH FREEDOM Every good American cherishes the Pour Freedoms contained con-tained in the nowi-famous Atlantic Charter: Freedom 01 speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom free-dom from fear. There is another freedom for which all humanity is fighting: Freedom from Disease. One of the most feared and most insidious diseases thai amihally threatens this nation is infantile paralysis. It i high on the list of ttublic enemies because its victims art chiefly children under 16. Infantile paralysis the Great Crippler is no respecter respect-er of persons. It strikes rich and poor alike, white and black, Catholic, Protestant and Jew. Through contributions to the March of Dimes, conducted con-ducted January 14-31 by the National Foundation for Infan tile Paraylsis, you can help bring the Fifth Freedom closer More than half of the men, women and children at tacked by infantile paralysis get well, according to the na tional foundation. Of those attacked, the foundation sayt 50 per cent recover completely, 29 per cent are left wit! sJight residual paralysis, 18 remain handicapped and 3 pe cent die. Half of your contributions to the March of Dimes re main hith your local chapter of the National Foundation to be used fo r special equipment, hospitalization, transporta tion, and treatment and care of polio petients. The othei half goes to the National Foundation for research, education educa-tion and emergency aid during epidemics. |
