Show LIVESTOCK NOTES Los Ar.treles Unkn Stock Yards,! July 3 Livestock markuts are! carrying a firm undertone on the Pacific coast, due in great measure mea-sure to generally unsatisfactory range and crop conditions throughout through-out the area. However, there is apparently an abundance of grain and hay, as well as other concentrate concen-trate feeds available on the Pacific coast. With unusually favorable crop prospects throughout the middle mid-dle west, it seems probable that livestock feeds may provide economical econo-mical rations this season. Fed cattle are in active demand on the Los Angeles market at prices relatively higher than are new prevailing on middle western markets. The result is that the Los Angeles market is drawing fed steers and heifers from New Mexico, Mexi-co, Colorado, Idaho and it is reported re-ported that coast packers have made some purchases as far east as the Missouri river. Supplies of cattle in California and Arizona feedlots are now reported somewhat some-what in excess of a year ago, but there is a decided shortage of grass-fat cattle in this area. Members of the trade believe that unless there is further sharp decline in the middle west, there is every reason to anticipate a stable outlet during the immediate future. It is reassuring to all interested in the stability of the livestock market to witness the broad consumer demand for meats, as slaughter of all livestock with exception of lambs is running well in excess of a year ago. The hog market is showing seasonal sea-sonal strength and prices have advanced ad-vanced fully one cent a pound during dur-ing the past 30 days. Increased marketings of hogs may be expect-j expect-j ed in the fall, according to govern- ment estimates. Increased export demand for pork products and lard may prove a stabilizing influence in the hog market. Lamb prices have held on a stable basis n the Los Angeles market with fhe result that a good . many good choice wooled lambs have 'been attracted from the extreme ex-treme northern coast country of California. Good and choice wool-ed wool-ed lambs have been making ?S.50 to $9.00 on the Los Angeles market, mar-ket, with best shorn lambs to $9. |
