Show 60-Day Extension Granted In Which To Work Claims Mining assessment work for the fiscal year, beginning last Saturday, Satur-day, has been extended until September Sep-tember 1 by a bill passed by both houses of congress and signed by President Roosevelt. Under the terms of the measure, the claims will expire on September Septem-ber 1, unless there is evidence that assessment work has been commenced com-menced by that time "in good faith". The 60-day extension came out of conference between the housa and the senate, after the house had passed a bill extending the deadline to October 1, and the senate cut the time down to September Sep-tember 1. In conference, the senate bill finally was adopted and the president presi-dent signed it, making it law. Under the federal mining laws, prior to the passage of the extension exten-sion last week, a claim holder who has not begun his work by noon, July 1, would have faced the possibility pos-sibility of losing his claim, as it would have become subject to re- location by another prospector. j However, the bill passed last week, extends that time to Sep- tember 1, an extension of 60 days.
