Show . v ' Important Matters Discussed At Meeting Farmers taking part in the soil conservation conference at Minersville- Wednesday evening emphasized em-phasized Irrigation for Maximum Production. The, meeting was in ch.rge of Charles K. Jameson, chairman; Stanley McKnight, secretary, sec-retary, and Warren B. Hall, who ere district supervisors of the Minersville Soil Conservation district. dis-trict. The main objective of the meeting meet-ing was to emphasize water conservation con-servation practices ;.nd the application appli-cation of principles of irrigation which will enable the farmer to use his irrigation water most efficiently ef-ficiently cud to achieve maximum production of crops for war with a minimum of soil wastage. It was indicated that the over-irrigation of soil depresses plant growth and washes away soil, while too little water will str.rve the plants. Points ccvi?red by the discussion were as follows: Leveling of land for irrigation; shortening the irrigation ir-rigation runs; laying out the fields for irrigation; installing efficient ef-ficient controls such as headgv.tes. turn-out boxes, iron tubes and equalizing basins; constructing Parshall measuring flumes; building build-ing soil-s.ving dikes; selecting methods of irrigation best suited to different fields; determining j proper width of strips to irrigate; proper turning cf irrigation runs; use of a moisture probe as a guide to irrigation; application of irrigation irri-gation water at proper time and frequency; value of fall irrigation. irriga-tion. The correct application of irrigation irri-gation water in order to secure A A A payments also was discussed discuss-ed and a report of irrigation studies made on the farms of Shirl Carter, Elmer M..vrshall, Darwin Marshall and Ralph Pearson Pear-son was mtJde. Colored slides were shown. The members who have attended attend-ed sessions of tre conference so far are Charles K.
