Show Youths Steal Airplane, Forced Down, Out of Gas FAIRMONT, MINN. Two crestfallen crest-fallen but uninjured 15-year-old boys surrendered to police and confessed the theft of an airplane which they admitted had been wrecked when they made a forced landing near Jewell, Iowa, 75 miles north of Des Momes, when they ran out of gas. The plane, formerly the private property of Gen. George S. Patton of the 3rd army while he was stationed sta-tioned at Fort Benning, Ga., was sought after Arthur Stade, its present pres-ent owner, reported it missing from the local airport. First news of the craft, a three place Stinson valued at $3,500, was brought by the boys, who hitchhiked from the scene of the wreck, approximately ap-proximately 125 miles from Fairmont. Fair-mont. The boy who acted as pilot had had seven hours of flight training. train-ing. Police said the boys would be released re-leased to their parents. |
