Show Commission Ready For Road Building The Utah road commission staff is being placed in readiness for a resumption of federal aid construction construc-tion after July 1 under terms of the Robinson bill, Roy IMcLeese, chief engineer of the Icommission, said Wednesday, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. Although the Robinson bill is intended primarily as a postwar measure, congress may authorize expenditures at any time it thinks advisable. When Ray H. Leavitt, commission chairman, was in Washington, D. C, recently 'he was told by Thomas McDonald of the pu-blic roads administration that congress would be asked to make funds, available after July 1. Mr. McLeese said if congress accedes ac-cedes to the request, Utah likely will receive an allocation of $1,-000,000 $1,-000,000 in the next fiscal year on the regular federal aid matching :basis. This means the state will put up an additional $280,000. Mr. McLeese said the road commission has ample funds in its construction construc-tion reserve to match whatever is made available by the federal government. The commission now has plans drawn for about $2,000,000 worth of projects and these could be advertised at a moment's notice. |
