Show Utah Oil Company Sets New Record The Utah Oil Refining company, I achiever of a new world's record in production of 100-octane gaso-I gaso-I line at the Salt Lake City refinery, I expects to increase substantially its quantity of production upon completion of a new pipe line Setember 1, E. S. Holt, vice president, presi-dent, in charge of manufacturing, said Wednesday evening. Announcement of the Salt Lake plant's world record in obtaining 40 of 100-octane aviation gasoline gaso-line from crude oil was announced Wednesday afternoon at the third joint technical meeting of Standard Stan-dard Oil company and its subsidiaries sub-sidiaries at Chicago. Chief Chemist A. W. Neeley explained ex-plained that the Salt Lake plant is one of two in the nation which uses a new process for making a high-octane component known as neohexane. "Availability of this ingredient, is largely responsible for our large output of aviation gasoline," he said. "Since we are also fortunate enough to have a pipeline to bring in our crude oil from the Wyoming fields, we have been able to get along with a minimum of critical rail transportation," he said. The Salt Lake refinine- DlanL ! first achieved 32 output of high octane from crude oil, later upped this to the world's record of 40, said Mr. Holt. However, tl:e company hopes to increase further its utilization of crude oil. 'Increased need for aviation gasoline gas-oline in the Pacific has forced quantity as well as quality production, pro-duction, and completion of a pipe line from Rangely, Colorado, io Waynsetta, Wyoming, will permit tapping new crude oil fields being developed in Colorado, he said. While, all 100-octane gasoline now goes to .the armed forces, the Salt Lake plant will continue production for commercial aviation avia-tion use as well as western military mili-tary units after the war, said Mr. Holt. r |
