HIGHLIGHTS " week'$ news I PEARS LOWERED: The OPA has placed fresh pears under price control regulations. Up to September Septem-ber 10, the highest retail price will be about 15 cents a pound. It will be allowed to rise to 17 cents by next April. OPA officials said. SUMMER JOB: Back in 1894, James Ware took a job as a railroad rail-road waiter during the summer to help pay his way through medical college. Somehow he hung on until fall came, and then summer. With Free Silver and one thing and another, an-other, James thought he had better stick to his job. Last week he was presented a button for 50 years of service with the railroad.
