Show Salt Lake Lawyer Heads Lions Clubs D. A. Skeen of Salt Lake City this week was elected president of the International Association of Lions Clubs at the closing session of the 2Sth international annual convention. The association, which added ?6S new clubs and had, a net I increase of 28,000 members durinp; ! the year ended June 30, now has a total of -1500 clubs and 1S0XCJ '; members in 14 countries. 1 Prior toxhis elevation to the presidency, Skeen served Lions International as third, second and first vice president, successively. He served the Lions club of Salt Lake City as director and president, presi-dent, and during 1922 he held the office of district governor of Utah Lions clubs. He served one term : as international director. ' Skeen is associated with the law j firm of Irvine, Skeen and Ttrur-man. Ttrur-man. He is a member of the Utah State Bar, the American Bar association, as-sociation, and the Commercial Law League of America. He was formerly form-erly deputy county attorney of Salt Lake county. In accepting the presidency. Skeen said, "Greater today than ever, is our opportunity for service. ser-vice. We have seen in a short space of time, our very right to serve our fellow man challenged. Community life in the world has felt most the impact of this cruel orgy of death nd destruction. "Basically, our community life must go on. We as Lions have before us, under world conditions, the great opportunity yes, responsibility re-sponsibility to heal the wounds and remove the scars of war's impact im-pact on our respective communities communi-ties and to make the communities better and lift there such that opportunities op-portunities will attract and bring back, with due appreciation, the service men and the war workers." Skeen was born in Plain City, Ut ih, and attended the University of Utah. He received his B. S. degree from the Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural college and his L. L. B. degree from the University of Chicago. He is a member of the Phi Kanpa Alpha fraternity, and is affiliated with the Latter-Day Saints, lie was active in the establishment es-tablishment of the Utah State Training school for feebleminded children, and w,:is president of the govern it-jr board of that institution institu-tion for ten years. He is interested inter-ested in various other phases of social welfare work. He is also interested in farming and livestock. live-stock. Skeen is married and has five children. |
