Show LOOKING BACKWARD Items of interest taken from the Fils of tne Milford News of " Fifteen years ago this week 4 The M. I. A. had given a special program with a debate "Resolved that the United States government should grant a bonus to those who served in the World war." The affirmative side was presented by Frank Fanner and Leonard Bowen and the negative side by J. F Smith and Charles Beard. The negative won the discussion and the judges were W. A. Miller, H. E. Bowman, Mrs. Ross Smith and j Ardath Johnson. Harry Martin had also entertained the crowo with a radio concert broadcast from Oakland, California. The Catholic ladies had met and formed an organization for Milford. Mil-ford. They were to be known as the Ladies' Catholic Leaeue. Mrs C. J. Himstreet was elected president presi-dent and Mrs. John Hanlon as sec rotary-treasurer. Miss Olive Johnson had been hostess to the Jolly Gigglers club. The aftrrno. n was spent in sewing after which the hostess' mother Mrs. Ar.tone Johnson, served lunch to eight members. The Milford ward of the L. D. S. church hail held their annual reunion re-union on January 25. A toats, complimenting com-plimenting the Murmor.s on their hospitality and goodness wa.s given giv-en by Karl S. Carlt. n. After the tables were cleared a program was rendered by W. A. Miller. Ardath Johnson, Miss Juanita Miller, Dan Ferguson and Mrs. Clarence Grim-shaw. Grim-shaw. Charles Decker had returned from a thirty-day trip to St. Louis. Bessie Killam and Charles Glenn had returned from attending Leadership week in Provo and had given talks in the school telling the thing they had learned while there. At a leagrue game between Milford Mil-ford high school and Beaver high ; school, on the local floor, the score had resulted in a score of 32 to 23 in favor of Beaver. Jonas Braun, proprietor of the Milford Army store and part owner of the Success market in Salt Lake City, had died from effects ef-fects of ammonia gas. While helping help-ing to move a refrigerator one of the pipes broke and filled his face and lungs with the fumes from vyhich he died in a few hours. Mrs. George A. Atkin had entertained enter-tained the Bridge club at high noon with Mrs. McKay, Mrs. C. C. Sloan, Mrs. William Elmer, Mrs. C. E. Moore, Mrs. F. A. Olson, Mrs. S. S. Atkin,,. Mrs. O. J. Davis and Mrs. Ernst being present. |
