We have become so interested in the different differ-ent things that we had to write to companies for some information. John Peterson wrcte to the Deser-et Deser-et News for some literature about their paper. They sent him a copv of the first edition of the Deseret News and a few folders which they give to people when they visit their buildin.tr. Yavonee Stcddard wrote to the Tribune. She has not yet received an answer but we expect ex-pect it will be something interesting interest-ing too. Jay Rogers sent to his uncle in Salt Lake and received some literature and pictures of Salt Lake City. Mr. Gaines, the ticket agent at Milford, helped us. He sent to the general office of the Union Pacific railroad for some literature. They sent him several lovely books. These books contain . colored pictures of the canyons of Utah. Our fourth grade certainly appreciates the interest Mr. Gaines has taken in us to help us. Doreen Moody. Alfalfa Hay This hay is used to feed cattle, f'hren, pigs and rabbits. We harvest har-vest three to four crops of this hay every summer providing we do not raise seed, in which case we cut the first crop and let the second sec-ond stand for seed. The first crop is the most valuable and brings a better price, varying from eight to fifteen dollars per ton, according accord-ing to the demand on the market. The first crop is used to feed milk cows and fatten lambs, as it has more leaves and smaller stems. The other crops are used to fatten cattle,' pigs, etc. Carol Myers. Alfalfa Seed This seed is very valuable. It sells for a price of 20 to 30 cents per pound. It takes from 10 to 20 pounds to plant an acre. Ten pounds if the farmer expects to raise seed, but if he makes a business busi-ness of raising hay they plant 20 pounds. In this country it is not necessary to, plant this crop every year because the stock does not die in the winter. Many farmers have harvested crops for 18 years . on one planting. In 1920 to 1927 1 Millard county raised more alfal-! alfal-! fa seed than any other place in the j world of the same size. All over ; the state irrigation is used to, raise this crop. Carol Myers., Education in County and Milford i We have one school district in our county.
