Show THE NEW FACES IN CONGRESS There is much interest concerning the type of men that have been newly elected to the house of representatives which is now in session in Washington, says the Republic-Bulletin Republic-Bulletin of Washington, D. C. It is interesting to note for instance that among the new members elected on November 8th there were at least 37 who have served the nation in war time and who belong to either the American Legion or to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. -Among these are founders of the Legion and former: commander and high officers of it and the V. F. W- This! certainly points to a patriotic front. j In a fraternal way the Masons appear to have captured; the prize. At least 18 of the new members, or of those known i to belong to fraternal societies, are members of the Masonic ' order, with the Elks and Odd Fellows running a good second and third and with many representatives from the Moose, j Woodmen, Eagles, Knights of Pythias, Red Men, Owls and! the like. j Two bankers and two laborers were elected, an even tally. 1 Civic clubs such as the Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions and the like: are also well represented. At least 62 of the new members of the House are college graduates- The colleges of the District of Columbia were1 well represented as were Harvard, Cornell, Notre Dame, Uni-, versity of Wisconsin and the like. Seven of those elected are ' educators by. profession. j As is the rule of any election, professional men, particularly particu-larly attorneys and physicians, walked away with honors, j At least 37 of the new members are attorneys or medical! men, most of them attorneys. j |
