Camp By Marv Smith, Camp Correspondent J Men Receive Recognition Three members of the camp recently re-cently received recognition for their efforts and leadership displayed dis-played in camp activity and camp projects. Well-liked Sam Shields, senior foreman; Joe Wilson of the survey crew; and Harry Holmes, assistant leader, were decorated with gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively. These men have shown an active interest in their work and merited the distinction dis-tinction accorded them. Congratulations! Congratu-lations! Weekly Program The boys of No. 2 barracks are to be congratulated for the well organized program they presented in camp. Leader Frank Hatch arranged ar-ranged an interesting program following fol-lowing the patriotic theme throughout, through-out, and dealing to a great extent with the life of George Washington. Washing-ton. Barracks No. 3 will present next week's entertainment. Chris "Fleetfoot" Chesley has recently been made a chartered member of the "Did I run and am I tired" club. It apjwars that some city slicker took unfair advantage of our Chris inasmuch as he un- suspectingly ate a supposedly "Herschey" chocolate bar that was ; proffered him by supposed friends I It develops, Chris informs me between excursions, that the "Ex-Lax" "Ex-Lax" people make similar looking products to the "Herschey" people. Now Chris has changed. He has sworn off all chocolate bars, and just by way of being cautious, only eats one meal per day. Basketball Game Well! the basketball players (?) from the C C C camp took another lesson in basketball Saturday night from the Milford '"M" men. Those Milford sharpshooters droped only three shots through the hoop to the camp's one, making mak-ing a score of 66 to 22. Anyway it was a lot of fun and if the "M" men will only stick with us until next June maybe we will be able to tie their score for once, if we j get any practice in the meantime : and provided the Milford boys only j put two players on the floor at one j time. We admit it, they're too I good. j It is rumored that "Van Dyke" j Castleberry has threatened to ' shave his beard off on account some Milford girls took to calling him "Goldylocks." Ping Pong In the recent ping pong (table tennis) tournament held in camp, Lawrence Bishop and Marv Smith emerged winners in the doubles event. Marv Smith won the singles. Would like to challenge the "M" men basketball team for a ping pong match. |
