Show VICTORYTHEATRE j From a circus concession attend-! ant to a glamorous motion picture star! That is the transformation undergone by Ann Sothern, newest Columbia screen discovery in the romantic Hollywood musical, "Let's! Fall In Love''; which will be show-j ing at the Victory theatre this Fri-! day and Saturday. Proving that i ' Hollywood can be fooled, Edmund Lowe, cast as a motion picture director di-rector in this captivating production, finds Miss Sothern working in a circus. She is the type he needs for a certain picture, but he realizes she' won't have a chance unless she is! given a huge build-up. So he teaches i her Swedish, buys her a stunning! wardrobe, introduces her as "off the! boat," and an enviable motion pic-' ture contract results. Supporting! the principals will be seen a wellj selected cast consisting- of Gregory Ratoff, Tala Birell, Miriam Jordan, Betty Furness, Ruth Warren, Arthur Jarrett, Greta Meyer and Anderson Lawlor. The appearance together in a picture pic-ture of Joan Crawford and Clark Gable is an unmistakable sign ofl screen entertainment above the ordi-j nary run. The popular pair are again seen opposite each other in "Dancing Lady," Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's filmization of the widely read James Warner Bellah novel, which will be the feature attraction at the Victory Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. From all indications Metro has outdone itself in providing its top-notch stars with a vehicle which from the viewpoint of lavishness, spectacular detail and casting-strength casting-strength leaves practically nothing to be desired, Miss Crawford, who in "Dancing Lady" starts out as a cheap burlesque chorine and ultimately ulti-mately ends up with her name in bright lights on Broadway, has a part which gives her every opportunity opportun-ity for dancing, singing and plenty of displays of emotional fireworks. Gable, likewise, has a "meaty" role as the musical comedy director who at first considers the pushing Miss Crawford as the biggest pest of all his chorines but is eventually brought to realize that there is more to the girl than a striking figure and particularly adept dancing legs. The unusually fine supporting cast grouped together for this production includes the fast-rising Franchot Tone, May Robson, the irrepressible Winnie Lightner, the world-famed 'dancer Fred Astaire, Robert Bench-' Bench-' ley and Ted Healy and his stooges. ; Also in prominent roles are Gloria Foy, Art Jarrett, Grant Mitchell, Ma'ynard Holmes, Nelson Eddy and Sterling Holloway. Only one word caij describe this picture, "IjuIv for a day"; it's swell! j Comes to the Victory Wednesday and I Thursday of next week. For down-j down-j right unadulterated enjoyment it presents possibilities seldom seen on 'the screen. Here is that "different" ! picture that audiences have been hop-i hop-i ing for. Endorsed by men and women I in all walks of life because it is human. An unforgettable perfor-I perfor-I mance and you'll scream with delight de-light and thrill with suspense when you see. "Lady for a Day" with Warren War-ren Williams, May Robson, Guy Rib-bee, Rib-bee, Glenda Farrell, Ned Sparks, Walter Connolly, Barry Norton, Jean Parker, Nat Pendleton and Hobart Bosworth. |
