Seventh Grade Assembly A very interesting program was given by the little seventh graders Friday, March 2. The program consisted of: A clarinet clari-net duet by two of the boys; a piano solo by Margaret Hanlon, a chewing gum song by four of the boys, a Cindrella song, a tap dance by Maxine Max-ine Altman. From the happy expression on the faces of the high school students and from the lingering applause I could guess that they enjoyed the program very much. Thelma Thompson. Junior English The Juniors have been studying an interesting book on the lives of some of our American authors. Did you ever hear of the man who said, "Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been'" ? That was from Oliver Wendel Homes. "And if I should live to be The last leaf upon the tree in spring. Let them smile as I do now At the old forsaken bough Where I cling." That was also by Oliver Wendel Holmes from "The Last Leaf." Emerson says, "Friends! When they are real, they are not glass threads or frost work, but the most solid things we know." Another quotation is "A friend is the masterpiece of nature." I think these expressions have expressed ex-pressed what all of us have felt at ene time or othr. David Thoreau went to the woods to avoid the danger of finding, when death called, "That he had not lived." Each student can imagine that his favorite author has become a part of him. That is why we have such pleasure in the study of these men. They were alive once, and, as we read about them, they seem to walk out of the pages and hack to life again. Yvonne. The first thing in English class this morning, Miss Fernley says, "We are now going to have ", and what do you think I imagined she was going to say? Well I was almost sure she was going to say a party or something, when she ended with "news articles." ' Sh! T just about told you that Miss ! Fernley doesn't like parties didn't I? I Well don't believe me because she does like parties and with the Junior class of the M. H. S. On the 23rd of this month they are having a party j or rather they call it the Junior prom ' and it's going to be another big "fun for everyone." Emma Patterson. Coming up! What's coining up? I The girls of Caliente are coming up i to play the girls of the M- H. S. a I game of basketball March 10. I This promises to be a good game I for both the teams are good. Don't forget the date and come to see the game. Audrey Raines. Seniors Plan Trip The Senior group of the Milford high school is laying plans Mr a three day excursion by bus to Zions canyon, can-yon, Bryces canyon and the Boulder dam. This trip is being planned for the last week of school. About twenty Seniors will be expected to make the trip. High School Day News has reached our ears that high school day at Cedar City is very near, in fact, it is April 14. Every student is very interested in this eventful clay, for each has some talent to display. This is one day that all do their best and put forth the best they have to set Milford high school first in rank with the other contesting schools. The students feel that they have a good chance of placing M. H. S. first this year. Bernella Jones. Sluffing I came to school the other day whistling and singing at the top of my voice. I could see the school house on the hill. The air was balmy and sweet, and I almost got "spring fever," but pushing the wicked thought from me I toiled on up the hill. I had just entered the building when three boys with mischief written writ-ten all over them burst from the school house and ran pell mell down the hill. Ah! thought I there goes some "kids" with "spring fever." With a sigh at the thought of their crime- I gathered up my books and started for history class. Thus I went through the whole of that balmy spring day glad that to morrow was Saturday. Not that I don't love school but, dear readers, it is so nice to be out in the fresh warm air. I suppose it takes willpower to . stay in school these days when the new shoots of grass and the meadow-larks meadow-larks beckon for you to come out, but it's worth it. Hicdrich Knickerbocker. |
