Show Fire Department Makes Record Runs The Milford volunteer fire department depart-ment negotiated two record runs during dur-ing the past week, a call Tuesday afternoon af-ternoon taking them to the unloading unload-ing platform north of the P. F. E. ice house. The platform was afire underneath under-neath from end to end, due, probably, to a breakfast fire built by hoboes. Getting the flames exterminated was . stubborn proposition even for the department equipment and men, small stream being played on th fire by a railroad employe having made no impres.-ion on the flames. The dry gras3 of luter in the season or ft few minutes delay on the part of the department de-partment would have endangered all the houses on railroad row. Thursday of last week engine and men made a nine-mile run to the W. W. Cook farm home in South Milford Mil-ford in 12 minutes to battle flames that, mysteriously starting In a pile of second-hand lumber, had got into the manger of the ham and would have burned to tre barn and probably the house but for the timely arrival ar-rival of the city equipment. As it was, the damage, was confined to the three loads of second-hand lumber, a couple of loads of poles and the corral cor-ral fences. |
