Show GIVE THE FIREMEN A BREAK Several of the members of the fire department have come to us this week requesting that we find space in the paper to print a warning to the public to stay away from the truck or apparatus while the firemen are at work to check a blaze. We are glad to do this and call our readers' attention to an article on the front page on the subject. Loss of life is imminent anytime a speed fiend follows too closely upon the fire truck on the way to a fire. At the most convenient hydrant, a couple firemen always jump off to fasten the hose, and on the last occasion, an oncoming oncom-ing car was almost upon them as they leaped. Streets should be cleared as much as possible to make room for the truck. ' Firemen should not be put to an extra hazard, nor hindered 1 in their work. ; When we consider that most of us go to a fire mainly ; as sight. wers, it is reasonable that the least we can do j is to kc.-p out of the firuncn's way when they are trying to : protect property. |
