Show UTAH EXCHANGES FISH EGGS WITH NEARBY STATES Newell B. Cook, state fish and game commssioner, has announced a policy to be followed regarding the propagation of trout in Utah waters. Included in the policy is the exchange with neighboring states of eggs of different varieties to enable Utah sportsmen to procure a catch of other than rainbow trout. The commissioner expects, with 1,-000,000 1,-000,000 brook trout eggs to come from Colorado, in exchange for 1,-000,000 1,-000,000 rainbow eggs to be delivered next spring, to make up in some measure mea-sure for the loss of brook trout eggs at Fish lake due to keeping the season sea-son open the legal limit. The Colorado Color-ado eggs will all be hatched for Fish lake. "In addition to the trade with Colorado," Col-orado," Mr. Cook said, "we have exchanged ex-changed with Montana 2,000,000 rainbow eggs for 2,000,000 native eggs which will be here early next year, and another 2,000,000 rainbow for 2,000,000 Loch Leven eggs, which will be here in November. We believe be-lieve the exclusive development of rainbow is not giving the sportsmen of the state the best satisfaction possible." pos-sible." Mr. Cook is considering keeping Fish lake open to sportsmen until October 10 and probably until October Octob-er 20, the legaT closing date. Last year, responding to the argument that the brook trout are about ready to spawn before the legal date of closing and, therefore, are caught without trouble or much sport, the commissioner closed the season two weeks before the legal date of closing. |
