Show UTAH MARBLE WILL BE USED IN PORTLAND BUILDING When Utahns erect an imposing public building they are inclined to turn to Georgia, Indiana or some oth-1 er distant state to find a stone i worthy of the structure. But Port-land, Port-land, Ore., has found a marble in' Utah which will add luster and distinction dis-tinction to its new $2,000,000 federal building. The Utah marble, which is being mined from Mt. Nebo, will line the stately halls of the Portland building. I And proud Portlanders, when they! take their friends through the structure, struc-ture, can point to the Utah marble, call attention to its beautiful coloring color-ing and impressively add "It is in- i laid with gold." j The stone, according to the treas-' ury department construction engineer engin-eer in charge of the Portland building, build-ing, is streaked with minute veins of the precious metal. The gold is so ; tightly encased in tho hard mineral ! that it cannot be profitably extracteh, but it is there to lend an atmosphere . of richness to the marble halls. I The stone is covered with curious j and fantastic figures and contains ! every color of the rainbow, with buff, yellow and brown predominating. I |
