Show CONTRACTORS MOVE I CAMP FROM ZION i I Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway I" Completed Cost Onj and Qmvtev Million. ZiorTxational Paik, Utah, Feb. 12. Having completed contract work on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway in Zion National Park totalling one am! a quarter million dollars, the Nevada Contracting Company have wrecked their camp which they have occupied for more than two years, moved out their equipment, and all employees have left the park, thus marking the end of their job of building the major part of what is perhaps the most spectacular highway in the world. Win- k on ihe great project lias now progressed to a point where it is poe-sible poe-sible to open it to use by the public. However, any person who elects to drive over the road can expect delays up to several hours on account of construction operations still in pro gress by other companies. The major parts of the work still uncompleted are the bridges over the Mukuntuweap River near park headquarters head-quarters and across Pine Creek. In addition final surfacing of the section from the east portal of the tunnel tc the park boundary remains to be done, and also some minor items of construction. con-struction. Until all of this has beer ompleted, which will probably be earlj in the summer, delays may be expected. ex-pected. n |
