Show TO WASH A SWEATER When a sweater is to be washed, it should first be measured carefully so that after washing it can be stretcjhed to its original size and shape. Use lukewarm water and only neutral soaps. Strong washing powders pow-ders should not be used, but borax and ammonia are safe to add to water inclined to be hard. Use any soap in the form of a jelly, and do not rub soap directly on the fabric. Use more water for any wool garments in proportion pro-portion to bulk than for any other fabric. Squeeze and work the sweater sweat-er in the suds without rubbing. Press out excess water and wash in a second sec-ond suds of the same temperature. Rinse free from soap in several changes of lukewarm water of about the same temperature as was used before. Wring through a loose-set wringer. Dry in a warm place, but not near a fire or in the direct sun-j light Never allow a sweater or any other wool garment to freeze. Spre.u! the sweater out, back down, with sleeves outstretched, on several thicknesses thick-nesses of clean soft material laid flat. Measure and shape according to the dimensions previously taken. If necessary, pin in place. Turn occasionally occas-ionally after it is almost dry. |
