Show SNOW PASSES TO STATE ON JULY 1 Snow college will cease to be a church institution on July 7, at which time it will become the property of the state and pass into the control of the state board of education, says the Manti Messenger. Snow college was organized in 1888 by the Sanpete stake presidency, presi-dency, Kanute Peterson, Henry Beal and John B. Maiben, and is located at Ephraim. The school was then known as the Sanpete Stake Academy. In July 1901, the school was renamed Snow, academy, in honor of President Lorenzo Snow. Alma Greenwood, principal, and Carrie Henry Payne, assistant, formed the first faculty of the school. Greenwood was succeeded succeed-ed in the principalship by George Christensen, now judge of the Seventh Sev-enth judicial district. n |
