Show LINOTYPING OF NEWS COMES TO AN ABRUPT HALT Wednesday morning, the electric elec-tric elements of the melting pot attached to the linotype in the News printing plant became burned out, thus putting an end to further linotyping for several days. The worn out parts must be replaced by a shipment from San Francisco and the services of an expert must be obtained to install the new connections. As a consequence, minor news stories, linotyped Tuesday for less Important spaces in the paper, pa-per, were shoved, by necessity, to the front page. Some composing was done by hand, going to the typecases; a few essential paragraphs para-graphs were linotyped in Beaver; a piece or so of stereotype, and there you are! While we are not able for a few days to set lines of type on the machine, we can take care of job orders in the meantime, by doing hand-set work. And our next issue is-sue will be a regular one again, with the important news develop- ments omitted this week given due prominence, with next week's items as well. , |
