Show POPPY DRIVE T0 START ON 23rd OF MAY i 1 The little red memorial poppies which disabled World War Veterans have been making through the winter and spring, will be sold in Milford on Saturday, May 23rd, Helena McGarry President of Milford unit American Legion Auxiliary, announced yesterday. yester-day. A complete organization which will give everyone in the city an opportunity op-portunity to buy and wear a poppy in memory of the World War dead is being developed by the Unit under the leadership of Ardith Outzen, chairman of the poppy committee. A larger sale ofthe memorial flowers than ever before is anticipated by the Unit. "The purpose of the poppy sale is two-fold," Mirs. Outzen explained, "first, to honor the war dead by wearing wear-ing the poppy which grows on the fields of France and Flanders where they fell, and second, to aid the living victims of the war, the disabled veterans, vet-erans, their families and the families ' of the dead. Every penn of the mon-! mon-! ey which the people of i Milford pay for their poppies will go1 to the relief of war sufferers, the bulk of it to needy veterans and families right here in Milford. j "Saturday, May 23rd, the Saturday before Memorial Day, will see the whole nation wearing the memorial poppy," Mrs. Outzen states. "Poppy sales conducted by 7,200 Auxiliary Units will cover practically every city and town in the country. More than 10,000,000 Americans are expected to pay tribute to the World War dead and help the war's living victims back to health and happiness through buying buy-ing and wearing a poppy on that day." -o |
