It is estimated that more than one million persons visited the national forests as vacationists va-cationists during the 193 season. PROVO, I'T. Dairymen of Utah county have been presented with a certificate of merit for the outstanding out-standing dairy improvement program pro-gram of any county in eleven western west-ern states. The certificate was presented pre-sented recently to County Agent L. H. Rich at the National Dairy show in St. Louis. SALT LAKE CITY, ITT Sen. W. H. King has introduced a bill calling call-ing for an appropriation of $25,000 to improve sanitary conditions in the recrcationnl areas of the national na-tional forests in Utah. AFTOX, WYO. Three thousand and eight hundred turkeys, netting forty thousand pounds, have been, sold from the two Star valleys to the Northwestern Poultry Growers' association. SALT LAKE CITY, UT. The supreme court of Utah has rendered a decision to the effect that taxes may be paid in installments at the discretion of the county treasurer. LOGAN, UT. The county commission com-mission of Cache county has approved ap-proved plans for completing the Lo-gan-Hyrum-Wellsville road project. SALT LAKE CITY, UT. About 2000 rabbits were distributed to the needy of Salt Lake recently. The rabbits were killed by fifty hunters from Salt Lake who went to the neighborhood of Tremonton for the bunnies. EPHRAIM, UT. Ninety pounds of butter were stolen from the local lo-cal creamery recently. SPANISH FORK, UT. The local plant of the sugar company sliced 92,50S tons of sugar beets and made 285,000 bags of sugar in the season's run. OGDEN, UT. At the annual Weber Central Dairy association meeting reports made on the growth of the organization since its inception incep-tion in 1924, show the organization has grown both financially and otherwise oth-erwise and that the farmers of the county are interested in it to the extent of more than one hundred thousand dollars. The association has had sales of nearly a half million mil-lion dollars in the first ten months of this year. BOISE, IDA. The Green River Lumber company of Green River, Wyoming, has been awarded the contract for grading and surfacing 5.4 miles of highway between Grace and Alexander in Bannock county. The company's bid was $27,309, the lowest t:f seven bids offered. TWIN FALLS, IDA. A mail vote selected Twin Falls as the convention con-vention city for the 1932 convention conven-tion of teachers in eight south central cen-tral Idaho counties. Burley was the second choice. LEWISTON, IDA. Convicted of first degree robbery, robbing a garage, ga-rage, Frank LaMarre, 31. and Thos. Blair, 22, were sentenced to life in the state penitentiary. District Judge Miles S. Johnson also sentenced sen-tenced Lloyd Burns, 19, accomplice of the pair, to 10 to 20 years. PAGARI, IDA. Surfacing work on the highway constructed north of here has been completed. POCATELLO, IDA. The university univer-sity campus has been beautified. PAYETTE, IDA. Extensive improvements im-provements are under way on the road north of this city. McCALL, IDA. The city street lighting system has been improved. SALT LAKE CITY, UT. Conversion Conver-sion of a portion of the Great Salt Lake into a fresh wator body with the view of turning a large area of the surrounding alkali waste lands to industrial, scenic and sporting purposes, is contemplated by Geo. W. Snyder, Salt Lake mining man, and associates. Application has been made by Mr. Snyder to lease 85,683 acres of state land from the state land board and the application is in the hands of the attorney general. SALT LAKE CITY, UT. One hundred and sixty-seven men, three more than last year, have enlisted at the Salt Lake naval recruiting office this year. December's quota having been filled, the total for the year will stand at 1G7. OGDEN, UT. Over three hundred hun-dred thousand bushels of wheat have been sold in the intermountain intermoun-tain territory in the recent past, at an average price of 4S cents per bushel. LEWISTON, UT. The local sugar sug-ar factory produced 340.000 bags of sugar this season. SPANISH FORK, UT. A diversified diver-sified display will be entered in the junior division of the Ogden livestock live-stock show, January 8 to 14. BOISE, IDA. It cost the state of Idaho just $39,479.70 to foreclose on 20 endowment fund loans in Owyhee Ow-yhee county, almost as much as the total principal of the 20 loans, according ac-cording to slate officials. Principal ol the loans on the 20 acre tracts was .$43,755. Five of the 20 tracts have be?n resold at a luss to the state of $20S5.S0. Ii( USE, IDA. The Ada county diphtheria immunization movement among school children in the rural district has now included 1SO0 children. |
