Show Myton Myton, a government townsite platted before the opening of the reservation has advanced from a log Indian trading post to a commercial com-mercial center of importance in this basin country. The home of the Mylon State Bank, the strongest financial institulion on the reservation: the Uintah Power & Light company which maintains Its offices and operates one of the most, up-to-date roller mills in the stale; headquarters for the United' States irrigation survey lor which commodious office buildings and store rooms and stables have been erected; erect-ed; the Pleasant Valley Canal com-! pany, now constructing a canal to water 13,000 acres of land on the! beautiful South Myton bench; tho Myton Canal & Irrigation company which has already completed the greater part of the canal which will water 8,000 acres on the Kame bench. Myton's future as a city of large industries Is assured. The vast tract of Carey act land comprising 50.000 acres south of Mylon will also be watered at no distant date and the Castle Peal: nd Parictte mines youth of Myto:i ire at present developing I heir 1 ro;i-erties ro;i-erties prior to mining gil.onite on .1 large scale. The Uintah Telephone company has an exchange here and a good service both local and long distance is available. The Dart line terminates here. Tliix line covers a part of the North Myton bench and connects with the Millard line giving a service to all the rom-munitics rom-munitics of the northwest. The U. S. Survey also has a service of lines in various directions. The postoffiee which was recently raised from a fourth to a third class office is the only one of this class In the basin except Vernal. I Tho Presbyterian. Episcopal and L. D. S. churches each havo an organization or-ganization here. The Presbyterian church has a beautiful home, com pleted last year. Four lodges, tho 'Masonic. I. (). O. F. , W. of W, and the Yoemen are represented. A pood public library, well patronized, is maintained Myton has an excellent baeliall park and large trade, two grand stands vith a seating capacity of 1 t '1 a tenuis coiir, an Opera hou:-.e. so cial hall, and a moving picture show. Swimming and skaiing on the 'river are enjoyed in reason. |
