The new canal mukes it possible to build a great modern port with an e(H-. clent system of warehousing for the deposit and exchange of goods and plenty of room for factories close to the docks from which their products will be shipped. It also enables shlpa to make their way into New Orleana from the Gulf of Mexico or out from the Mississippi to the sea without passing through the tortuous and shifting shift-ing channel of the lower river.
