Show State Roads For Millard County A New State Road to Connect Delta and Fillmore. Fill-more. North Tract Road to be Extended to Join Lincoln Highway Work on Delta-Fillmore Road Starts Soon The outlook for road improvement improve-ment in Millard county is very good judging from the sentiments senti-ments of a meeting recently held at the county seat at which representative rep-resentative citizens of the various vari-ous towns of the county met with the county commissioners and State Road Engineer Morgan, Mor-gan, State Road Commissioners Jewkes and Lyman and the Co. Commissioners. Those present signified their desire to have a five-mill tax levied lev-ied for road purposes to be used in conjunction with state money's for constructing state roads within the county, the state furnishing two-thirds of the funds and the county furnishing one-third. Stat? Engineer Morgan expressed ex-pressed his willingness to take over the road already built by the Delta Land & Water Co. on the North Tract and extend it to the parallel, the Land & Water Co. standing half the cost of building to the parallel and of reconstruction contemplated by the state engineer to extend the road from the parallel north to a point where it will intersect the Lincoln Highway from Salt Lake to San Francisco, thus shortening shorten-ing the road from this vicinity to Salt. Lake several hours, cutting the time to about six hours. The road on the south tract haa been abandoned on account of too much flooding by irrigators. The most important road work taken up at the meeting was the new road between Delta and Fillmore, Fill-more, and work will probably start on this new road in the very near future. The new highway to be built between here and Fillmore Fill-more will in all probability follow very closely the route laid out by Commissioner Maxfield. Mr. Maxfield deserves a great deal of credit for the laying out of this new road, as it is a nutural highway high-way between the railroad and the county seat and can be built at a much less cost and make a much better road than any other route Which has been or could be selected. selec-ted. The construction of the new road will probably lead, later, to the changing of the mail route to the county seat as there has been a great deal of trouble over the old route in wet weather. While as we understand it, the commissioners have not yet voted vot-ed the five-mills, tax, all were in favor of it and there is no doubt but that it will be voted. This tax will not be available until next year, but it will give the county in the neighborhood of $14,000 more money for road work. In the mean time there is still about $6,000 available for road work. This will give the county sufficient funds for the building of the Delta-Fillmore and all other work now contemplated. |
