Show Los Angeles Will Open Short Route All persons who have studied the possibilities of automobile routes in and out of Suit Lake have agreed that the time is coming com-ing when a direct route from Salt Lake to Los Angeles will be opened and that such a rout would goto via St. George, Utah. Pioneers in the routing business in Los Angeles, as well as Salt Lake, know that time is coming, but up to date Salt Lake has taken only a passive interest in the matter thru consideration for Ely, Nev., which would disapear from the auto map between Salt Lake and Los Angeles if this route were opened. It is not a queston as to whether Ely hay appreciate this fact or not, but it is true that no one in Salt Lake has agitated or in ?ny manner tried tc bring about the early opening of the new trail, purely thru friendship for Ely. Yesterday a communication was received by The Tribune from Los Angeles, which indicates indi-cates that the time has come when the opening of this route can no longer be held back and that Los Angeles interests intend in-tend to open the trail whether Salt Lake feels so inclined or not. Charles H. Biglow is now en route from the coast city to Salt Lake, and is expected here within with-in the next few days and he is coming with the avowed intention inten-tion of opening this route. The story of his trip up to date is as follows: Routing the old Mormon trail, on roads that were traversed decades ago, Charles H. Biglow is on his way to Salt Lake with latest road data on this interesting interest-ing route. The old route is to be made a new highway, and, as a result Biglow is collecting the information that will be of special spec-ial value to the men who propose to connect Los Angeles and Salt Lake with the shortest road possible pos-sible between the two cities Many miles of good road already al-ready have been built. More will be constructed as the money is raised. It is possible to plan for a direct connecting link between be-tween the two cities because of the project now on foot whereby the bad stretches of road are to be put into condition for touring. tour-ing. From Ibis to Searchlight there is a natural road. Biglow writes that he is surprised with conditions con-ditions along this route and says that for a small cost the road can be placed in such condition that touring will be possible before the rains are over. He believes that this is to become one of the main arteries into Los Angeles from the east. It is expected that Biglow will reach Salt Lake about the end of the present month. He is driving driv-ing in as near a direct line as possible. He finds that the washouts that he feared had practically closed the route, have not been as bad as was at first i stated. He can see no reason why the road should not be . opened at once and will present ; to the leading business men of Salt Lake a plan whereby the ! route can be made passable. ; "The road builders are over- looking a great project," writes ! Biglow. We have here a fine ; stretch of highway, with only a few dangerous spots. These ', could be repaired and put into ; shape at a small expense, and I ; intend to place this matter be-I be-I fore the right parties and make ; this a real road jaunt from Salt Lake to Los Angeles, " Trib-'.
